MNPATM - 27/12/10

WEEK 12

PLAYERS APBA POINTS
The Brim 1.08 22
Green Machine 1.14 13
The Calculator 1.00 2
The Wookie 2.33 28
Tickles 2.00 10
The Spaniard 2.11 19
The Baptist 1.14 12
Monkey Spunk 1.92 23
The CIA 1.30 15

Hand of The Night: No massive hands spring to mind
Bad Beat of the Night: Tommy Rapes Andy with a 5/6 vs K/Q bad beat.

Well the dust has finally settled on Season 4 and what a season it was. Statistically the closest season by far, everybody got a piece of the action and had their moment in the sun. The final games played out pretty much as predicted. Worthy wins went to Tony and Tommy (second and third in the APBA league respectively) with the Green Machine also taking a hard fought point.

The first game, however, was really a race for the top of the table. With the Brim and Monkey Spunk both requiring a double to win the league, game one was tight. No-one wanted to concede chips and in the end the Wookie scored the 2 required to secure the league with the Brim taking one and Monkey Spunk failing to point.

Monkey Spunk has had the season of his life and game two gave him the opportunity to overtake Brim, secure second place and the player of the season award. Happy days.

Although the CIA and the Baptist failed to point it is worth noting that both had strong nights at the table. In fact in game one there were still six players at £500/£1000 blinds. No one had a bad night of poker.

For the Wookie this has been the perfect season. He topped the league, the APBA table, the wins table and (oddly) even won the spoon. He has now equalled the Brims two season wins and is catching him on the chart of champions. However....

Coming up in Season 5

It will be a few weeks before season five kicks off, but here are my predictions:

  • Tommy and Tony will both be in attendance with greater regularity; and
  • Evert, Andy and Tommy will Tighten their games; while
  • Jof, Mike, Steve and Tony will loosten up; and
  • Chris will start paying attention....
  • ...all this will mean that the table tightens up terribly and the title race becomes anyones; and that means
  • Season 5 we will see a new winner - and here's my prediction:

The awesome Tommy Tickles at Motorcyclearium on Friday night [NSFW] by The Always Unprofessional

Hand of The Night: Mike smashes, Steve's nut flush with 2's full of Kings
Bad Beat of the Night: None I remember.

The Baptist seams to like to set his stall out early. Remember that time he landed a (nearly) Royal Flush in the first hand? Well he was at it again last night. Flushes, Full Houses and some very nice opening hands monstered Mike early. However, and we've all been here, that early lead was chipped away leaving Evert the man to beat late in the game. Indeed Evert was unlucky not to win but he did walk into....

THE GREEN MACHINE IS BACK. Playing like Wimbledon in their 'Crazy Gang' days, Chris was scared of nothing. Bets came flying in left right and centre. He played heads up like a man possessed and took a well deserved win. Notably, he bubbled again in game two but it could have been a different story. Facing a draw for a flush and a straight Chris went all in against Tony and Jof (both sat on a pair of Aces). If he'd taken the hand Game two may have been his as well.

Meanwhile, The war between the Brim and The Wookie reached a stalemate last night. Like North and South Korea, shots were fired but failed to escalate. Both took a reasonable two points leaving The Wookie with a strong 5pt lead into the last week.

Finally, Where was Monkey Spunk? A league filled with solid performance was let down by a damp squib last night. By failing to point the Spunkster has fallen back into joint second with a mountain to climb to take the win.

Prediction for the final week: The Wookie will tighten up, looking for one or two points to seal a certain victory. On the other hand The Brim and Monkey Spunk will seek to interfere. Both need to secure wins and that might make the table volatile. Indeed this is likely to cause a similar outcome as to last night: points will disperse down the table with the leaders seeing very little change in position.

MNPATM - 13/12/2010

WEEK 10

PLAYERS APBA POINTS
The Brim 1.90 19
Green Machine 0.90 9
The Calculator 1.00 2
The Wookie 2.40 24
Tickles 1.75 7
The Spaniard 1.86 13
The Baptist 1.41 12
Monkey Spunk 2.10 21
The CIA 1.37 13

Hand of The Night: There weren't really any massive hands per se.
Bad Beat of the Night: The Wookie makes 9/4 off suit into a big pot win.

Fuck my armpit if Andy isn't having the season of his life. For the first time ever he has tipped over the 2.0 APBA and he's closing the gap with Season Two champion the Wookie. I can see the day coming when poor Zan has to explain to a bemused engraver what a 'Monkey Spunk' is.

Both the Wookie and The Brim failed to shine last night taking one and two points respectively, this left the way clear for the Baptist to take a well earned win and Evert to scrape in with another 2 points. For a new boy Evert is having a storming season. He currently sits neck and neck with the Spaniard and that's no mean feat.

And so to the Ballad of Chris Green, fallen like a statue of Saddam Hussein. A man who used to stride among the Titans of the game is now reduced to scraping in the dirt with the peasants. Some blame loss of focus (angry birds a current favourite) others prefer to say that, like Icarus, he flew to close to the sun. Either way he's now fallen below the 1pt a week mark and is propping up the table.

Predictions: Statistically week 11 is anybodies. In past seasons the Calculator and Tickles have both taken major points, as has the Wookie and the Spaniard. However, the run of play would suggest that Andy/Jof/Steve will take 2 to 4 points each. One of Evert/Mike/Tony will take a win. Chris will fail to point, preferring to play games/facebook/roll.

The Weekly Soundz! - 13th December 2010

So another week goes by and I have another list of favourites for you. Kicking off we have:

Dawes

You like the Doors do you? No man I like Dawes. North Hills is an awesome album and "When My Time Comes" is the best song of 2010 hands down.

Their from LA which instantly makes them cool and pretty much ensures they'll go massive when they crop up on a soundtrack (actually I think this already happened). Anyway, if you are going to click anything on this page, watch the video below.

Djcybo

From New York. Spooky lovely and wonderful. Describes herself as Visual/ Dark Ambient/Industrial/Trip Hop/Esoteric. Takes pictures of NewYork to go along side her music. Which is nice.

Lyndsie Alguire

Simply a lovely way to end this post. Canadians eh?

brim and spunk on the poker tour at motorcyclearium on monday evening by The Always Unprofessional

This was the Wookies night. Solid play throughout delivered two wins and a six point lead to the furry man. In a statement of intent to the Brim and Monkey Spunk the Wookie played the game of his life. It wasn't all pretty poker, the 8/9 bluff in game one (mentioned above) should have lost the game and not won it. Even so this may be the turning point in the league. Which raises the question...

...where was the Brim? 0 points at this crucial stage has left the Brim with a mountain to climb in the last three weeks if he wishes to score a trophy hat trick. To be fair to the be-hatted man he saw box queens fail to deliver twice and didn't have much luck all night.

After a brief flash of inspiration with box Kings appeared to put The Green Machine back in the game, the previous favourite once again failed to point. He must brake his run of bad form soon.

After a few quiet weeks The CIA loosened his belt to take a respectable second place, frustrating Andy, Chris and Steve on the way. In Game one he made all the right moves and by rights should have the win. He can't count spoons though. He's got three.

The Spaniard once again proved a consistent force, standing second in the APBA league after taking two points.  The Baptist on the other hand failed to make good on his initial Royal(ish) Flush "ROYAL FLUSH...I mean check" however, perhaps he'd used his luck up for the day.

Finally, Monkey Spunk has now scored more points in season 4 than has scored in any season to date. Can he take the league from the Wookie.... let's wait and see.

Prediction for next week: Chris finally returns to form and smashed off the night with a respectable 4 points. Evert takes another two points. The Brim returns with a win to make the league interesting.

The Weekly Soundz! - 6th December 2010

Hey all,

Thought I would post some of my favourite finds from the past week. First up is...

Belinda O

...who describes herself as "Kenyan born, Glasgow based singer/songwriter..." and I don't know anything else about her. What I can say is that her songs are beautiful. Anyway here's a song:

Chariots by Beldina O

A Prior Hassle

This dude writes some random ass songs - which are always always worth hearing. He's based in Fargo (which I for one think is cool, no pun intended). It looks like he's just in it for shits and giggles, which I also like. Check this out:

Trees and whatnot

So the Mrs bought our first fake tree in a sale last January. Its about two inches taller than our living room.

My new rule. I don't care if my tree is real or fake. But size is actually worth considering.

Anyway.
